EXPERIENCE BARNEGAT BAY is a unique offering of interactive interpretive programs led by the experienced staff of the Natural Resource Education Foundation of NJ. Programs are held at theDEP Division of Fish and Wildlife’s Lighthouse Center for Natural Resource Education, located along the bayshore in Waretown, Ocean County, NJ. The Center is situated on 194 acres of diverse coastal habitat including maritime forest, salt marshes, tidal creeks, a freshwater pond, brackish impoundments and a sandy beach with access to Barnegat Bay.

Comprehensive curriculum guides will be provided to teachers and group leaders prior to your visit. All curriculum materials are correlated to the NJ Core Content Curriculum Standards, and include objectives, pre-trip and follow-up activities, and reproducible student worksheets. Clipboards, field guides and all necessary equipment for each program will be provided. Programs can be custom designed for any grade level or special interest. Each program is planned as a 2-3 hour (1/2 day session.)
Please make reservations to schedule your group well in advance; dates are subject to availability. Programs are conducted rain or shine, with indoor activities offered if severe weather conditions occur. All participants should dress appropriately for wet or muddy outdoor conditions. Boots or sturdy hiking shoes, bug spray, sun block, a hat, sunglasses, and a jacket are recommended. Be alert for ticks, biting flies and mosquitoes. It is usually breezy to windy at the Center. We hope that you will leave our site as clean as you found it. We are a carry in-carry out facility, so bring trash bags.

- Use of Site/ Trails/ Learning Stations $ 5.00 per person/ per day; $50.00 facility fee
- Half day: One Interpretive Program (for up to 30 participants) $ 150
- Half day: Two Interpretive Programs for two classes ( up to 30 each) $ 300
- Full day: Two Interpretive Programs (up to 30) with ½ hour lunch break $ 300
